Homemade Fly Spray

Submitted by webmaster

I got this recipe for fly spray from a vet. I like it because it smells good, and I don't have to worry about it if I spray my horse and a bunch of the spray blows back in my face.

Ingredients:
Avon Skin So Soft bath oil
Vinegar
Listerine (or generic equivalent) mouthwash

Mix equal parts vinegar and mouthwash (it's the eucalyptus oil in the mouthwash that is the active ingredient there ... if you're ambitious, you can buy eucalyptus oil and dilute it yourself), and then add a smaller amount of Skin So Soft bath oil, which is the most expensive ingredient, and can be used sparingly.

I use about a 40-40-20 or even a 45-45-10 mix.

If you spray first and then wipe with a rag, that helps spread the spray evenly around on the horse's coat.
